How to connect with BigCommerce

By connecting with BigCommerce, you can:

  • Sync all products from Zettle to BigCommerce
  • Automatically sync the changes you make in Zettle to your products in BigCommerce
  • Automatically sync inventory changes to and from both platforms

Before you begin

To gain the most benefit from this integration, we recommend that you make sure your Zettle stock quantities are up to date.

You’ll need a BigCommerce account with which to connect the integration. Use your existing account or create a new BigCommerce on the BigCommerce webpage

How to set up the BigCommerce integration

Connect accounts

  1. Sign in to your Zettle account at my.zettle.com
  2. Go to your Integrations page my.zettle.com/apps
  3. Click on the BigCommerce button, then click "Connect”.
    Note: Currently, we are only able to connect one BigCommerce store to one Zettle account.
  4. You will be redirected to BigCommerce where you can choose to create a new BigCommerce account or enter the login details for your existing store, then select “Confirm”. You will be redirected back to Zettle.
    Your Zettle account and BigCommerce account are now connected.


  5. You will now be asked if you want to import prices from Zettle to BigCommerce. This can only be done if you have matching currency settings in Zettle and BigCommerce.

    This setting will affect the initial synced products as well as all future synced products, and can only be changed by disconnecting and reconnecting the integration. So, if you sync products without prices, any product you add in Zettle later will also sync to BigCommerce without a price.


    Adding taxes

    Zettle prices always include tax but on BigCommerce you can choose whether to include tax in your prices or not.

    Important: If you choose not to include taxes in the price of your BigCommerce products, but still have taxes included in your Zettle prices, your margins will be affected. 

    In this case, we recommend not syncing prices but instead adding your price in BigCommerce after the products have been synced. Tax settings are not exported from Zettle, so your products will come under the BigCommerce tax rules.




  6. After syncing prices, you can sync products already in your Zettle product library to BigCommerce. You have two options for syncing your products:

    • Sync all the products in your Zettle library to BigCommerce in one go during the setup process

    • Manually pick and choose which products you want to sync to BigCommerce from inside your Zettle product library. You can manually sync products at any time.

    Once you have chosen your syncing option, select Finish setup. This will either start the syncing process or direct you to select products from the product library.









You're all set!

Important: Make sure you always update your products in Zettle as any updates you make in BigCommerce will be overwritten.

There are a few exceptions: Any updates you make to the VAT in BigCommerce will not be overwritten. If you choose not to sync prices from Zettle, you will be able to set the prices in BigCommerce without them being overwritten.

However, you can update product information such as online product descriptions and shipping weight on Zettle, and sync them over to BigCommerce. Once you do that, the product information you have on BigCommerce will be overwritten.

Syncing products to BigCommerce

Once you have set up your BigCommerce integration, you can repeatedly sync your products from your Zettle account. Follow these steps to show your products correctly on BigCommerce:

  1. Sync the products on my.zettle.com.
  2. Log in to BigCommerce and find the synced products under the category Zettle.
  3. Move the products to the relevant BigCommerce category and update the prices if necessary.
  4. Make them visible in your BigCommerce shop.

You can check the status of the product and inventory sync on your Zettle account:

  1. Log in to your account on my.zettle.com.
  2. Go to Integrations and select BigCommerce.
  3. Select the Sync log tab and review the Sync status.

How to sync products from the product library

If you skipped syncing all products during the integration setup, you can always sync products from the product library.

To sync multiple products:

  1. Go to your product library on my.zettle.com
  2. Select the products you want to sync using the checkbox column
  3. Open the Actions menu and head to Assign channels
  4. In the popup, select the checkbox for BigCommerce
  5. Use the Update products button to apply the change

Zettle will now sync your selected products to BigCommerce. You can always check the status of the sync in the Sync log located in your BigCommerce integrations page on Zettle.

How to sync a single product

  1. Go to your product library on my.zettle.com
  2. Click on the product name to open the product detail view
  3. Head to the section called Assign channels
  4. Select the checkbox for BigCommerce
  5. Use the Save button to apply the change

 

In BigCommerce, all synced products are first placed in the category labeled Zettle. You need to move the products to relevant categories and make them visible in your webshop.

How to unassign a product or a group of products from the product library

To stop syncing one or more products with BigCommerce:

  1. Go to your product library on my.zettle.com
  2. Select the products you want to stop syncing using the checkbox column
  3. In the popup unselect the checkbox for BigCommerce and click Update products
  4. Confirm by using the Unassign products button

Following this, your products will be removed from BigCommerce.

 
How to enable separate stock for Zettle and BigCommerce

For certain products, you may want to track the stock of that product separately for in-store and online sales. To enable separate stock for items sold on BigCommerce and through Zettle, you can:

  1. Go to your product library on my.zettle.com
  2. Click on the product name to open the product detail view
  3. Head to the section called Inventory
  4. Ensure that Enable inventory tracking is on
  5. Select the checkbox Separate stock for BigCommerce
  6. Enter how much stock amount you want to allocate to BigCommerce and Zettle
  7. Use the Save button to apply the change

How to turn off separate stock for Zettle and BigCommerce

Your stock is synchronised between Zettle and BigCommerce by default. You can turn this off on by unchecking Enable inventory tracking inside the detail view of a product.

If you enabled separate stock for the specific product, you can also turn it off:

  1. Go to your product library on my.zettle.com
  2. Click on the product name to open the product detail view
  3. Head to the section called Inventory
  4. Uncheck the checkbox Separate stock for BigCommerce
  5. Confirm the action by clicking on Turn off separate stock 

How to disconnect the integration

  1. Sign in to your Zettle account at my.zettle.com
  2. Go to your Integrations page my.zettle.com/apps and click the BigCommerce integration
  3. Click the disconnect button
  4. Your BigCommerce account will be disconnected from Zettle. You can choose to delete Zettle products from BigCommerce or keep them. If you choose not to delete products, the products on BigCommerce previously imported from Zettle will not be deleted but will no longer be in sync with Zettle. If you decide to delete, the products on BigCommerce previously imported from Zettle will be deleted from BigCommerce.

You can also disconnect the integration from the BigCommerce side.

Log in to your BigCommerce account, go to Apps > MyApps > Zettle and click uninstall.

FAQ

Import and sync

I have a lot of duplicated products after the sync! How do I fix that?
If you have the same or similar products in BigCommerce and Zettle before setting up the sync, you will get duplicates. But the products synced from Zettle will end up in a new category called “Zettle” and can easily be identified. 

The integration says setup is incomplete – what should I do?
You may not have completed every step to sync your products. Click into the BigCommerce integration and complete the setup.

Can I export my products from BigCommerce to Zettle?
No, we don’t support this at the moment.

Can I connect multiple BigCommerce stores to my Zettle account?
You can only connect one Zettle account to one BigCommerce store.

Which products will be synced?

If you selected to sync all products during the integration setup, all products in your Zettle library will be synced to BigCommerce.

After the integration setup, all products newly created in Zettle will automatically sync to BigCommerce.

If you manually chose which products to sync with BigCommerce, only the products you select, and all newly created products, will be synced.

Why can’t I sync my products’ prices?
Your BigCommerce store needs to have the same currency as your Zettle store if you want to sync prices. If they are not the same, you can choose to not sync your prices, your prices will then be set to 0 in BigCommerce after the sync setup and you should change them there.

Managing product data

How is my VAT/tax handled?
BigCommerce uses the tax settings in your BigCommerce store and applies them to all products synced from Zettle. If you sell products with different VAT rates, please make sure to update their VAT once the sync is complete. Changes you make in BigCommerce or Zettle to VAT are never overwritten or synced, it is not part of the integration.

What product information should I manage on BigCommerce?
We recommend you manage all product information on Zettle and sync them over to BigCommerce. However, if you choose not to sync prices from Zettle, you’ll need to manage them on BigCommerce. 

What product information should I manage on Zettle?
We recommend you manage all product information on Zettle and sync them over to BigCommerce. Note that the product information you have on BigCommerce will be overwritten.

How do I add a product that I don’t want to sell through BigCommerce?
Uncheck BigCommerce checkbox when creating a product.

How do I add a product that I don’t want to sell through Zettle?
If you have products which you want to sell only in BigCommerce and not in Zettle, you can create the product in BigCommerce and it will not be synced to Zettle. 

What happens if I add a new product in BigCommerce?
Adding a new product in BigCommerce won’t add the product to Zettle, so we recommend adding new products in Zettle instead while using this integration.

What happens if I update a product in BigCommerce?
Any product updates made in BigCommerce won’t update your Zettle store. This applies to all products, whether they were synced from Zettle or not. The change you made in BigCommerce will also be overwritten the next time you update the product in Zettle.

What happens if I update a product in Zettle?
Updating a product in Zettle will automatically update the product in BigCommerce.

I’ve updated my product in Zettle, when will I see the changes appear in BigCommerce?
Changes made in Zettle will update in BigCommerce almost immediately. Inventory updates in BigCommerce will take a few seconds to sync to Zettle. 

Some of my products haven’t appeared in my BigCommerce library, what can I do?
Find the product in Zettle and make a small edit (such as the name) and click “Save” to start the sync again, then check your BigCommerce products to see if the product has appeared.

If the product still doesn’t appear in your BigCommerce library, please contact support.

Managing inventory and sales

Can I disable syncing of inventory ?
Yes, you can do it on a per-product basis. Check the section “How to enable separate stock for Zettle and BigCommerce” for more information.

If I sell in BigCommerce, will the inventory be updated in Zettle?
Yes. An order in BigCommerce will update the inventory number in Zettle, too.

If I sell in Zettle, will the inventory be updated in BigCommerce?
Yes. A sale or refund in Zettle will update the inventory number in BigCommerce, too.

What happens if I manually update the inventory in BigCommerce/Zettle?
Regardless of where you update your inventory, the update will be reflected in the other platform if inventory tracking is enabled and separate stock is disabled.

Will BigCommerce take a percentage fee of the sales made in Zettle?
No. Sales made in Zettle will only update your inventory in BigCommerce, it will not be considered a sale.
