Compatible hardware and accessories

We support a variety of handy accessories like docks, receipt printers, cash drawers, and barcode scanners that you can use when accepting payments with Zettle. You know your business best – mix and match products to build your own unique point-of-sale setup.

How it’s all connected

The Zettle Reader 2 uses Bluetooth to pair to your smartphone or tablet, and the Zettle Terminal connects directly to your wifi network – or via 3G/4G with its pre-installed SIM.

Many compatible accessories can connect to your Zettle hardware in different ways, including wifi, Bluetooth, USB or Apple Lightning connections. If you’d like to add wireless accessories to your setup, keep in mind that they will need to use the same network as your Zettle hardware.

Multiple smartphones, tablets and Zettle Terminals can be connected to a supported receipt printer that is using the same network. You can also connect the printer to a compatible cash drawer.

Each smartphone, tablet or Zettle Terminal can be connected to two printers at the same time – a plus if you use both a receipt printer and a kitchen printer.

Good to know:
Multiple simultaneous Bluetooth connections on the same smartphone or tablet can impact the device’s performance when taking payments. This means, for example, that if you use Bluetooth to connect to a Reader, receipt printer, and a Bluetooth speaker streaming music, transaction times could take longer, or the connections could drop more easily.

Connecting your printer to your smartphone or tablet

  1. Follow the instructions that come with your printer to connect it to your smartphone/tablet.
If you have a Zettle Terminal, please ensure both the Stationary printer and Terminal are connected to the same Network.
  2. Open the Zettle point-of-sale app. Go to “Settings” > “Accessories” and select your printer. To ensure that the receipt printer is connected, you can print a test receipt in the POS app’s printer settings.

Printing receipts with the Zettle Terminal Printer & Dock

For the Zettle Terminal, we sell a separate Printer & Dock that you can attach to print receipts on the go.

Compatible barcode scanners

Barcodes are unique identifiers for each product; they are often called UPC or EAN codes. You can connect a barcode scanner directly to your smartphone or tablet, or you can scan codes using your device’s built-in camera together with the Zettle app.

Scanning barcodes within your Zettle POS app (after you have added the UPC/EAN to your product’s details) allows you to quickly ring up items without having to scroll through your product library.
